he 1998 Porsche® 911 GT3 Cup was another racer - the successor to the 911 Carrera Cup (993). The body was based on the 911 Carrera, while the transmission, steering & chassis were all designed for motorsport domination - with the ability to be set up to match individual circuit characteristics.
The naturally aspirated 3.6 litre engine was an evolution from the flat six used in the 911 GT1, and generated 370 hp @ 7200 rpm as well as a maximum torque of 273 lb-ft (379 Nm) @ 5000 rpm. Use of lightweight materials brought the overall weight of the car down, allowing the GT3 to go from 0-60 mph 0-100 km/h) in a mere 4.8 seconds. Top speed with the 6 speed manual transmission was 187 mph (299 km/h).
For model year 2000 Porsche® released the 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 Club Sport, which were also usable on the street.
