D Tach is a physical performance hard drive test for Windows 95/98 and Windows NT. In Windows 95/98 it uses a special kernel mode VXD to get maximum accuracy by bypassing the file system. A similar mechanism is used in Windows NT.
Warning for version 2.61 - Version 2.61 has a problem with ATAPI CD-ROM autoinsert notification on some systems. This will cause a blue screen error and will require the machine to be rebooted. The autoinsert notification will cause this problem during hard drive benchmarking. To avoid this issue use HD Tach 2.52 or disable autoinsert notification before the test is run. Also, you may perform write testing with HD Tach, however HD Tach does not attempt to preserve data on the hard drive, so make sure you back up first to be safe.
